Research in the Otto H. York Department of Chemical Engineering

Faculty members of NJIT’s Otto H. York Department of Chemical Engineering are conducting research in a variety of traditional and emerging areas. Currently there are four areas with particular strengths: particle technology, polymeric materials, polymer physics, membrane technology, and pharmaceutical engineering. There are also significant activities in areas such as mixing, smart coatings, homeland security, green manufacturing, bioseparations, treatment of hazardous wastes, reaction engineering, computational thermodynamics, and mathematical modeling of processes.

Sponsored research is supported by the National Science Foundation, the US Department of Energy, the US Department of Defense, the US Department of the Interior, and private companies including Pfizer, Schering-Plough, and Merck.  Current research expenditure in the department exceeds $2.5 million per year.
